In the Roman hills -
40 km southeast from Rome - two charming country villas can be rented
either singly or together. There is a big shared pool, a children's
playground and a lush extensive park with grape vines, olive trees, and
vegetable garden.
On clear days you
can view the seaside at Anzio and Circeo which are only 30 km away and
are easely reached. In each house there are sleeping facilities for 8
persons which makes the property very suitable for larger groups of
friends or family reunions.
Around a cluster
of three old country houses forming a flagstone yard you find the
enchanting property Villa dell'Artemisio. For centuries wine, olive
oil, fruit and vegetables like tomatos,
aubergines and peppers have been the products of the estate.
These are today still cultivated.
The oldest villa
with its thick walls, detached rafters and charming round windows -
Villa dell' Obló - is from the 17 th century and was originally a
monastery for nuns. The other house for rent is Villa dell' Portico
from about 1880. With its outdoor porch's refreshing breeze and open
look on the pool, the town of Velletri and the sea, you have the
perfect opportunity for quality relax in the estate.
The interior of
the villas has been gently renovated over time, while the exterior has
been jealously safeguarded as it was. Much of the rustic furniture is
original and has been in the family for generations. The mansion is
mentioned in history books as it has been the scene of the famous
battle between Garibaldi and the Speranzinis in the middle of the 19 th
century.
The third villa
remains private, and the pool is shared with the owners of the estate.
A few steps away, in a fourth house, lives a Rumanian family who looks
after the property. They will help you out if you have questions or any
practical problems. Extra services such as breakfast or lunch are
available.
Villa
dell'Artemisio is located in the heart of the Natural Protected Park of
Roman Castles Hills, an area endowed with beautiful lakes and century
old forests. The area is famous for its Frascati wines and its fine
virgin olive oil.
The surroundings
are historically interesting as, over the centuries, catholic orders
have built monasteries and retreats. Nearby, at Castel Gandolfo, the
pope still has his summer residence, a small replica of the Saint
Peters Church in Rome, which is open for visitors.
In addition there
are many unspoiled medieval villages such as Nemi, Giulianello and
Artena worth while a visit. The famous garden of Tivoli and the garden
of the emperor Adriano are also a short drive away. A car is
recommended for your stay, and can be rented for example at the nearby
Airport of Ciampino or at the Airport of Fiumicino.
The area offers a
varity of options for active holiday such as trekking, road bike and
MTB. The mountain range "Lepini" is only 10 km. away and offers 5km. -
8 km. climbs with inclinations from 5-8% in average and some passages
with up to 20%. The mountain "Artemisio" where the villa is situated
has many MTB tracks.
